Seen around town...

We get a kick out of some of the signs and other things that we see here.

Sounds painful

Why have a boring round manhole cover?

Ouch!

Meercats!

Slugs and lettuce--just what I want for lunch.

Can you believe this sign?

Oxford and the Making of the King James Bible

Today we had a real treat. We were able to view a display of the making of the King James Bible at the Bodleian Library at Oxford. Websites: library

The exhibition

It's hard to fathom how old these books are--

Photos of the actual King James bible were not allowed but I was able to sort of capture these.

Here are some more photos of Christ Church College where Harry Potter was filmed.

Iffly Church Oxford

During Bill's driving lesson we traveled to one of the oldest churches in England--Iffly Church Oxford

Iffley Church is famous for its beauty and architectural interest. It was built in 1170 and is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in the country.

This represents birds and beasts announcing the birth of Christ in Latin words.

This is the font which is large enough for complete immersion of infants. It is covered and locked because people would take some of the water.

Oxford, England

We are staying for a short time with a senior couple in Oxford. They showed us some interesting sites yesterday.

The home of C.S. Lewis. The inside can be seen by appointment only.

The pond is short walk from his house.

The ducks lost interest in us when no bread appeared.

And now for the Harry Potter fans, here is Christ Church College where many of the scenes were filmed.

Real cobblestones.
