District Meeting

Every Tuesday morning we meet with the rest of the Welling District. Yesterday’s meeting was especially good since the focus was Elder Bednar’s remarks at the Missionary Conference last weekend.

The elders had prepared well and rather than scattered bits and pieces, they took a few concepts and elaborated on them.

One was a review of goals. The purpose of the Church is to:
Perfect the Saints
Redeem the Dead
Proclaim the Gospel
Care for the Poor and Needy

Europe Area goal: double the active members in 10 years. (given in 2009)
England London South Mission goal: 6000 baptisms before July 2011

Alma 27:10-12 is about Lehonti’s reluctance to come down off the top of the mountain to meet with Amalickiah. Eventually he did and the end result is that he was murdered slowly by poison. The lesson for us is to stay on safe ground and to not be flattered or otherwise lower our standards.

We are so impressed with the young elders and their desire to obey and to serve Heavenly Father. We can feel the spirit when we are with them and wish we could start every day like we do on Tuesdays.
